The ChildTrauma Academy, at its core, works to improve the lives of maltreated children. We do so by helping the professionals and caregivers who interact with this important group of children better understand their needs.

Each day, we are contacted by concerned parents, foster parents, psychologists, doctors, case workers, policy makers, attorneys -- the list is long -- all of whom ask us to either help explain a constellation of symptoms for a specific child or consult on a program or project intended to help children.

While it is not possible for The ChildTrauma Academy to consult on each individual case, we have begun using new technologies to meet this clear need. In this issue, read more about our Spring/Summer Case-Based Trainings as well as an International Adoptions Clinical Interest Group - both of which will be held via conference call with visuals accessed via The Internet. No travel required! We are accepting registrations now for our Case-Based Training -- in time for the first session on Friday, April 13th.

Among those interestd in our work are members of the British Parliment who traveled to Houston in March to meet with Dr. Perry and The ChildTrauma Academy. To this delegation, we presented an overview of the impact of maltreatment and neglect and fielded questions concerning ways to prevent such experiences. Mr. Graham Allen, the MP from Nottingham, informed by work of the CTA and WaveTrust, has been the spearhead of major efforts in Nottingham. International Adoptions Interest Group

Over the years CTA staff have had the opportunity to work with many children adopted from institutional settings around the world and their families. We have seen the impact that spending the first years of life in settings where human interaction is severely limited and the opportunity for building relationships with caregivers and experiencing human touch is almost non-existent can have on a growing child.

CTA continues to receive requests from families across the continient for help in assessing and treating their adopted children. In an effort to help families understand the developmental impact of neglect early in life and to provide guideance in helping their children achieve their full potential the CTA is embarking on the creation of an International Adoptions Clinical Interest Group.

These seminars will provide participants the opportunity to learn about early brain organization and development and how early neglect can affect the developing child. Participants' specific cases (child/children) will be presented and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of Dr. Perry and CTA staff as well as network with others with similar experiences. This forum is open to subscribers. A specific schedule has not yet been determined. Email us at ChildTrauma@ChildTraumaAcademy.org to reserve your space in this training.

    Spring/Summer Case-based Training Series

Our first meeting for the 2007 Spring/Summer Case- based Training Series is set for Friday, April 13 at 11:30am CST. Subscribers (open to all interested parties) will conference call into a main number to hear Dr. Perry lead the group through a specific case using his Neurosequential Model to understand the concerns presented. Participants will, at that time, also log into a specific website to view the visuals that Dr. Perry presents as part of his lecture. Participants are able to ask questions and discuss the cases throughout the 90 minute session.

The ChildTrauma Academy has received wonderful feedback about this format for training: - Subscribers are pleased to be discussing their very own cases (participants submit their actual cases which are deidentified and used for training). - Subscribers find a feedback fascinating and helpful in creating therapeutic plans. - No travel is required. - The cost to participate is minimal. - Discussion directly with Dr. Perry and the other CTA Fellows is invaluable. - Discussion and networking between participants is very useful.

Please email us immediately should you wish to enroll in our 2007 Spring/Summer session at ChildTrauma@ChildTraumaAcademy.org
