This Newsletter is an opportunity to highlight two of the exciting projects the CTA has been involved with over the last few years. Each has the support of governmental and non-governmental organizations and institutions. Each demonstrates the power of leadership and the need to create innovative collaborative relationships in our problem-solving processes. The CTA is also pleased to announce that we are in the process of producing a two new sets of multimedia products - DVD and complementing slides and print materials. One set is for broader audiences with a focus on key concepts important for transforming policy and practice. The second is focusing on the core clinical skills and principles of the CTA's Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics. The CTA is also working to revise and update our website. We will be continuing with the www.ChildTrauma.org site but visit the revised site www.Chi ldTraumaAcademy.org and watch as we continue to create a more user-friendly, updated site. As always, we appreciate the positive - and not-so- positive constructive feedback we receive from from our previous Newsletters. We look forward to your comments on this Newsletter. We will continue to work hard to provide useful and timely information to help you continue to better understand and serve high risk children and their families. Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph.D.
We have previously highlighted this remarkable project. Bill
Lockyear, the current, but outgoing, Attorney General of
California, has provided remarkable leadership to California
and the rest of the United States, by creating and
supporting the development of this innovative project.
The need to decrease the violence that young children see each day in California was the immediate focus of this project. In collaboration with local communities - from local law enforcement to educators to parents - and with other state agencies such as the State Commission on Children and Families, the Safe from the Start project has supported local initiatives to help improve the lives of young children. The Safe from the Start team has done a remarkable job for the children and families of California. Their newsletters, multimedia materials, website and ongoing training support has truly transformed many communities in California. The efforts of this team are a great example of how government can get the "biggest bang for the buck."
The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog, a new book by Dr. Perry and
Maia Szalavitz continues to get great reviews. The book will
be available in mid-January in bookstores. Written for a
general readership, the stories provide a compelling
framework to teach readers about the brain, developmental
trauma and how a neurodevelopmentally-informed clinical
approach can help maltreated and traumatized children.
The CTA has been offering a live online training series this fall. Clinical cases are discussed in context of the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, a developmentally-informed clinical approach used by the CTA. Previously these online trainings were open only to key clinical partners. The upcoming Winter Series is open to individuals and institutions seeking to learn more about clinical work with maltreated and traumatized children. For more information click here. Watch for more information about the CTA's DVD series on the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics. We are on schedule to be able to release this DVD series in the Spring of 2007!
The ChildTrauma Academy and Dr. Bruce Perry are very proud
to be part of the team working on the innovative and
ambitious KidZone Phildadelphia project. This ten-year
multi-dimensional community engagement and transforming
project is being spearheaded by Foundations, Inc. Dr. Perry
has been working with the Foundations leadership for the
last two years on the planning and implementation of the
first phases of this remarkable project.
The key to success in KidZone is relational health. KidZone leaders have been working hard to create and nurture the relationships necessary to transform the targeted Philadelphia community into the safe, predictable, enriched and nurturing environment necessary to promote optimal child development. With a recent successful launch, the support of the community and a collection of multi-sector leaders - both individual and organizational - the KidZone is off to a great start. We will update you on the progess of this project in future newsletters.
