Biography

Annette Jackson, BSW, MSW

Ms Annette Jackson is a ChildTrauma Fellow and a Creswick Fellow.  As a social worker, she has worked extensively in the areas of child protection and child welfare for over twenty years. These roles have included being a practitioner, supervisor, researcher and manager. She received the Creswick Fellowship in 2004 that enabled her to visit the USA and Canada in 2005, including visits to the ChildTrauma Academy.

Ms Jackson is currently the Research Manager for Take Two and is located at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia. Take Two is a developmental therapeutic program for children, their families and carers, where the child has experienced severe abuse and neglect. Take Two is a Victorian program and is auspiced by Berry Street Victoria in partnership with the Austin Hospital Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, mindful (centre for training and research in developmental health) and La Trobe University School of Social Work and Social Policy. As such Take Two is a coming together of the child welfare and mental health fields in relation to child maltreatment.

Another major area of commitment of Ms Jackson’s is working towards more collaborative, affirmative and effective practice in partnership with the Aboriginal community, especially given the history of extensive traumatisation that has occurred within that community. Berry Street Victoria and Take Two share this commitment, and work with Aboriginal organisations, communities and staff to advance understanding of the impact of trauma on Aboriginal people.

Ms Jackson’s main areas of interest include infants, children and adolescents who are at risk due to child maltreatment; foster care and residential care; family reunification; child protection; Aboriginal children and their community; and linking research and practice.
